Au contrair mon ami a knife in the hands of a skilled user can at close range be deadlier than any firearm.
There is a famous training film done by the LAPD a few years ago that demonstrates this. They sent in one at a time an armed Police officer into a warehouse telling him beforehand there was a guy with a knife in there you need to apprehend him. What they didn't tell these poor guys was the armed guy was the guy who trains all the actors for knife fights in the movies and this guy is ranked either #1 or 2 in the world as a knife fighter. It was all filmed and in every case this guy if it had been the real deal killed the officers. He moved so fast when you see him you can't follow him. Even when these guys were sent in a second time the result was the same.
So the moral of the story is...No matter how many men you kill you can't kill your successor-Emperor Nero

Most serious knife guys cut & slice rather than stab. Seeing your own blood is a huge psychological factor. The downside of a razor is the edge being so thin & fragile. But, one well-placed cut and that wonn't matter.
While it isn't the LAPD video, it does serve as a very sobering reminder that edged weapons are deadly. This video does contain some graphic images of actual wounds sustained in a knife attack.

Ya use what ya got. Once, I saw a guy unmount a biker who was charging him with the motorcycle with the help of a pipe. I don't think it would have been as easy without the pipe. FWIW, yielded correctly, you can punch fairly effectively with the hand wielding the knife. If its a fixed hilt combat-type knife, you've got a wonderful surprise on either side of your fist. It makes your fist pretty damn hard, too. If you've got a razor, say in a box cutter, you should be able to demoralize your buddy in a leather jacket with a few good slashes across the eyes and face. I think a straight razor, though, would be sub par, unless you're doing the Sweeney Todd thing on a helpless victim.
There are some cases where a weapon doesn't match up. Never bring a knife to a gunfight, obviously, and if the guy across from you is holding a chain, you might as well toss your chucks away before you start spitting teeth.
