Feather's interpretation of the traditional Japanese straight razor
Gents,
My special-order Feather Artist Club DX arrived today. It's the Japanese version of the razor. (Check out Tony Miller's gallery to see some great photos of some superb Japanese straight razors.)
VITAL STATS
Length: 6.375 inches (approx.162 mm)
Weight: 46.4 grams (approx. 1.6 ounces)
Material: 316 stainless steel
The razor comes with a stand. A plastic bubble fits snugly on top of the base.

Ben,
Nice razor! I really enjoy my tradional ones but imagine this has a normal "2 sided" grind and can be used either way. Mine are ground concave/convex on opposite sides so only one side of the razor can go against the face which makes shaving the left side of ones face a real chore.
Here are the tradional ones Ben mentioned in his initial post. These were a gift froma Japanese collector and friend of the maker. The shackuhachi was made by me and is another of my small sideline projects.
Ben, could you PM me with info on how to get one of the Feathers?

Thanked: 4Guys, just remember that Feathers take replaceable blades. A gent on SMF uses regular injector blades in his, but the Feather blades are a bit longer and generally not found at the local store.

Thanked: 346That's right. It looks like a wedge, but it takes special blades that are only available over the internet. They aren't particularly pricey (~$.50/blade) and the blades last a week or two but it's not a traditional straight.
That said, I'm perversely interested in this as well, and I don't even like feathers....
