Thread: Greetings!

Well, after nearly five months I'm finally posting(WooHoo!). I first became interested in str8s about seven years back while serving in a National Guard infantry unit and was having trouble shaving in the field with double edge disposables as they would gum up too quickly. I read an article about straights and decided to give it a try but it hasn't been until this past year that I've really become serious about it. To make a long story short I discovered SRP by way of Classic Shaving.com and from reading the forums I've gone a long way in correcting numerous shortcomings in my honing, stropping and shaving technique. As a matter of fact, I've used a disposable once in the past several months and only because I was in a hurry. I can, however, see that this could well become an addiction requiring a twelve step program. Until today I was up to fifteen razors but now I have twenty two . So I hope to post more often when I have time off from my cruddy job .

P.S. One of today's acquisitions is a DublDuck Dwarf so now I'll have a chance to discover why a lot of you are gaga over DublDucks!

...actually, it's just the little duck design that we really like. Rather cute wouldn't you say? They shave ok too.......

Welcome aboard! As for the 12 step program, well, you are talking to the wrong people! It's like asking the liquor store owner if you should stop drinkin'. However, being a rather quick and established addict, you found the right place!

We aren't addicts. Addicts go to meetings.

I don't have room for the paltry razor collection I have now. I think the shave den project might have to get underway.

Btw. Kurt, I'm interested in hearing how the Dwarf works out. It should be a pleasure for working underneath the jaw line and my DD Satinedge is a decent shaver.

I was planning on useing my Focus razor this evening but will probably try the Dwarf instead. Although there's some darkening on the tang and staining on the blade I haven't seen any real corrosion. On the plus side, the hone wear on the spine isn't excessive and it's quite even along the length of the blade. Same goes for the edge. It's nice and straight with only a barely noticeable ding and the slightest amount of curvature at the toe so I expect it to hone up well. Yes, Firestart, I noticed the Dwarf seems to have a slightly shorter blade and so expect it will be more maneuverable than my other 5/8 size razors especially around the area just below and behind the jawline and beneath the ears. There I need to shave slightly up and back on the reverse pass which is a bit tricky with a longer blade.
