Lemme see, I could get a fifth of Jack Daniels Single Barrel, a fifth of Bulleit Rye and three fifths of that crumby Whipped Cream Vodka for the wife. That might get us through the weekend.

    Alum block

I've allotted myself $100 but don't really know what i should spend it on. I was thinking maybe a second shave ready razor in a different size and grind(new or vintage), or some castle forbes cream and a puck of MWF, etc, etc, etc...

What do you guys with more experienced would be a good next step, or what would you do in my situation?

If I only had one shave ready razor I'd definitely want a second one. Always pays to have a spare tire.

Hmm...sounds like the most logical path would be a second razor...I wonder if charlie, max, or alex would do layaway 100 dollars at a time....$100 worth of work, set it aside for a month, repeat. Haha

There are many good razors, ready to use, in the classified's that would fall under your budget & you would have some change to go towards that Nani 12K...

I got my razor during the december sale at SRD so i have the lifetime of free honing(amazingly gracious of Lynn and Don) so i was thinking of keeping that one honed up by Lynn so I can always have a "control" when I start honing/touching up my own razors.

Still, my razor is brand new so i could get other stuff now and wait a month or so and then get a second razor...if i were to go that way.

    Indecisive...
That's exatly what I did but in reverse order. Got the lifetime honing on my second razor from SRD.

It's been very useful to compare stropping the everyday shave razor with the control (SRD).

After that I decided to go with the interchangeable magnetic paddle SRD sales with the diamond spray ($89.00). I use it to refresh the edge (after one month of use), travel and later finish a freshly hone razor.

My next purchase was a microscope 40X-100X for $12.00 + $5.00 shipping. I got it yesterday and was able to compare both edges. Both edges shave very good but are very different. I don't think Lynn uses the diamond spray to finish his commercially hone razors. It will also be used to compare refreshing edge and later honing edges.

My next purchase would be the shapton finishing hone 16k, for $130.00. Use it to maintain the bevel, and later as a finishing hone.

Down on the distance would be the 4/8k honing stones. Still reading an learning, leaning toward the shapton system.

    In between, soaps and creams!

Any way, that's what I have decided after reading hours no end in this forum.

    Good luck deciding! Double O

I like the feedback of softer stones for the coarser grits so I'm gonna invest in naniwa's and then maybe a JNat for a finishes wayyyyy later on.

I don't see a hone in your list, nor after-shave balm, so my suggestion would be a nice combo hone (such as the doubles-sided 4000/8000 Norton waterstone) and some nice after-shave balm.
