I agree 3 pins are the way to go. They look better most of the time and help protect the blade better. I don't think though there is any correlation between quality and the number of pins. I have some pretty cheapo razors with three pins and some real fine one with two.

So far I have only two razors with three pins (I think). A C-MON wedge and a DublDuck Dwarf which I used for the first time this evening. Yes, three pins are the way to go. They give the razor a more solid feel.

I just like 3 pins better. I also thought the better razors had 3 pins. Whatever.

I have only razors with 2 pins, never felt something was lacking. If the scales are of good quality and the blade slides in exactly between them when you close the razor I cannot see the point of a 3rd pin. The spine will rest on the scales. A 3rd pin might even weaken the scales (theoretically).

A good point... but what about when the scales are not good solid quaility? It seems that most of the less expensive razors use plastic or plastic like material that bends a bit. That wont happen with a nice bone or ivory scales but will with plastic. It also seems that having the third pin might allow more air into the area the shank goes when closed and that might keep moisture out. Less chance or rust??

    Default 2 or 3 pins scales ?

I think the 3 pins look better & gives a razor a little more style.
Nice bit of market research. Have to keep my eyes peeled for them!
