Thanked: 66Collins Safety Razor - the razor looking for a soul to steal.
This last weekend in Arkansas City, KS was an auction for an entire museum, the Scotts Museum Antique Auction in Arkansas City Draws International Attention had different rooms with themes, and one such room was a barber shop. My sister is an antique store owner in Ark City and gave me a call to come look. I arrived about 30 minutes later, after a quick look at the barber shop display, I went looking around,
On a dusty table in a murky corner I pulled a small box which contained a shiny silver bubble. I did not know what I was holding, but due to the round design and knurled dials, I gave it a twist...... immediately it sprang to life, I was reminded of a horror movie expecting a hell raising spirit of the netherworld to appear. I quickly put it down after blood was dripping from my fingers. After the death machine stopped making noise, I of course picked it back amazed at it's grandfather clock style wind up motor. It didn’t take long to understand what it was I was holding. I returned the freakish death machine to its dark corner and returned home, the auction for the building with the barber equipment was not until Sunday I would be back.
I don’t have any photos, but here is a SRP post http://straightrazorpalace.com/razor...obesons-2.html (post #44) with the item I was longing for, I returned Sunday to quickly realize I was in over my head. The display case sold for $800, I left with my tail between my legs forgetting about Satins earring in the dusty corner.
My luck changed later that afternoon when my sister called to tell me she picked up a “Collins Safety Razor". I was immediately reminded of the band aid on my finger and began to Google. After only finding a few hits and one photo, I was intrigued. I knew right away she was smarter than I thought! Now keep in mind, my sister knows how crazy I am about Straight Razors, and she has most graciously agreed to allow it in my collection for a short time. Although I am a bit afraid to bring it in my house, as I am still unsure of its other world powers. You know darn well I am going to shave with bloodletting nightmare.
I have planned to video the experience and post on YouTube for the world and you to see. I could not find any other information on SRP, so I will docuemnt it well with plenty of photos. Here are a few cell phone photos she took tonight, hopefully in a few days she will be in town for my brief but exciting experience.
The little I know about it, is that it was from around 1915 and has a mechanized motor ran by springs. you spin the top half of the bubble and the round razor blade begins to spin. does anyone have any other information? we might as well document all we can for future google searches.

I would recommend to put a bulb of garlic in the box and bury it. No good can come of it!
Cool thing, Though!

Looks like it's from some cheap outer space movie. I expect the alien entity resides inside and after the shave pulls you inside.

Thanked: 66So far here is the info I have gathered.
The Collins Safety Razor was patented by the Collins Safety Razor Company # 1127409 by Bertrand Collins
it is fitted with a rotary circular blade slowly turned by a self contained motor propelled device. The first Collins patent is dated 9 February 1915
Patent US1127409 - ROTARY SAFETY-BAZOR - Google Patents
It has a blade on the bottom that looks almost identicle to this covered by a guard. it really looks nothing like a normal safety razor or works like one. it's just a spining blade of death.

Thanked: 66I finally got my hands on this. I can't wait to shave with it. I also found out its silver plated. Says so on the top. Also came with 7 extra blades in a cool little container.
What is interesting is how little information or photos exist on the Internet.
