I would tend to agree. But heck, back in the day there were no options to a straight - so to savor the decision to go old school, wasn't exactly a part of the lexicon so to speak lol.
As I try to imagine what it would be like shaving with a straight back in the day; I think that the super affluent must have loved it as their help pampered them - there may have been a class of gents who could afford the time to shave daily... you know professionals. But back in the day there were more country folk. And I can only assume the average farmer must of hated it as much as we hate carts - shaving in the dark or by candle is a bear, and daylight for a farmer is a precious thing... probably best not wasted dolling oneself all up LOL.David

Thanked: 2027Being in my mid 60s, I actually remember watching my grandfather shave with a straight,he had one razor,a strop and some sort of stone, this would be mid 50s,being poor Ukrainians, we all lived in one house (all 16 of us) I remember getting caught by the old man playing with his blade,I remember him hauling me by the neck to my mother (his daughter) yelling in russian: you tell Vasily (Bill) never to touch my shaving tools, you see, at one time, all that we hold dear today were nothing more than tools,in reality, they still are.
