Default Lawrence of Arabia - 50th Anniversary - straight razor shave

Last night I saw the digitally restored version of Lawrence of Arabia on the big screen. I took my son for his 25th birthday as this is his favorite movie of all time. First time I had ever seen it on the big screen and first time to see the movie in its entirety. Lawrence gives himself straight razor shave in middle of the dessert! I never knew!

    It is a great movie.
Sounds like you both had a good time.

IMO, there has been no movie in the history of cinema that has been as beautifully shot as Lawrence of Arabia.

You guys should read the book upon which the movie is based if you haven't already: "The Seven Pillars of Wisdom". An interesting read and IMO much more insightful than the movie in terms of understanding how Lawrence viewed his role in the war in general and with the Arab revolt in particular.

What I found particularly interesting about him was that he was a talented scholar prior to the war. In fact, he achieved a Fellowship to All Souls College Oxford (a research only college), which are extremely difficult to come by and extremely prestigious.

    T. E. Lawrence was certainly an eccentric character.

I am tempted to agree, but I feel that Doctor Zhivago get the 1st place slot for me, Lawrence of Arabia a close 2nd.

I originally read it in high school, and it remains one of those books that I reread on occasion along with "Meditations" by Marcus Aurelius.

Can't argue too much with that. I'd also probably throw The Searchers in on that list.

Alaska -- mid-90s flick starring Thora Birch. Awesome scenery!
