Thanked: 12Always loved things of old, looks really cool with all the types of scales and blade shapes, 1 blade can last a lifetime, needed a new hobby, reduce razor burn and get a closer shave, save money and the enviroment (I hate plastic scales), learn something new, be able to say that I can and do shave with a straight, add to my vanity, can be used for self defence and finally - do the HHT in front of friends and watch them go ohhhhhhhhh ahhhhh while admiring my manliness for shaving with such a tool

Thanked: 12Lol, did the HHT after honing in front of my moms husband and all he could say was wow - was a bonding moment for us ^_^.
Also if anyone ever doubts it's sharpness nothing like pulling some Kill Bill hair splitting to reasure them
If you ever watched the movie "The Body Gaurd" about Whitney Houston... the part where he drops her scarf on his sword and it cuts it in half would be nothing short of amazing to show somebody.

Thanked: 3I always liked doing things the traditional way, especially when the traditional way is superior to the modern way. Not to mention it added a hobby to my life, and a series of acquisition disorders...

Thanked: 4828I've had my great-grandfathers razor since I was a kid. I tried through my teens but couldn't make it sharp enough to shave with. I got it shaving in my early twenties, but not well. Then I bought a new straight recently and things improved. Then I discovered sharpening videos on you tube. The guy on the video was gssixgun on sep and all the other forums, I found the forum and here I am. The condensed version. I love the old razor and had to figure it out.

I had a c-mon given to me by a friends father. He sent me home with a razor and an army manual of how to shave properly. I read it and was amazed to how much work goes into grooming yourself with a straight. I read some more and found that your skin looks better and it is cheaper in the long run. I am very sure I didnt even have wiskers when I started to shave, but I was encouraged and taught by one of the manliest men I know. Later I joined the military and had to shave on a daily basis. I was made fun of for shaving the old fashioned way, but the lessons learned early in life have made my career a rewarding one, and I will be retiring very soon. I have helped countless people with psudobarbiculitous and the ocassional ingrown hair. Everyone I have taught/encouraged to shave with a straight has continued and have thanked me for the help. It is more of a culture thing to me. Do things right the first time, and pass on the knowledge.
