    2) I am a perfectionist and a blade care gets me my "perfection fix" early in the day.

    3) There is something very zen about concentrating on shaving.

    4) There is something very manly about straight shaving.

    5) Zen and manly is a wonderful combination. Sort of like smoking a pipe or practicing your jurus. (martial arts word)

    6) The wife used to ALWAYS be in my way when I was shaving, not any more.

    7) I get to threaten with a straight razor anyone who bothers me while I'm shaving.
Beautiful list. Sheer beauty. I started to compose my own list of reasons, then figured I should go through the rest of the posts. This hits the nail right on the head.

    Default wow

I got quoted !!!!! first positive quote ever!
Now.....to say something else that doesn't sound stupid even while I'm saying it

and now back to my regularly scheduled nonsensical gibberish............

OOOH OOOH !! I like fly rods too !!!!
    and tying flies!

Now that I think of it.... a straight might work well for splitting those really small feathers for use in tying hackles on dry flies !!!

Its all starting to make sense now......

gratewhitehuntr , being from Louisiana, most fly fishing done around here (not that I've done much of it), is for pan fish, bass, and salt water fishing --- for speckled trout (not really a trout) and red fish (not really red). But I like the idea of using very light gauge tackle, maybe 5-6ft rod, 2-3 line weight and find some very shy, clever trout (don't have trout around here) in a small stream and give it a whirl ---just like the idea of it --never have done it or much fly fishing for that matter --but I like the sporting nature of it ---kind of like using a straight razor --gives them stubbles a fighting chance. Take care,

    Justin

You have to walk through a lot of woods to find just the right little tree to cut out of the ground and work with.

    Made my first around 12.

I still have a club I made of black ash and finished with at least 500 coats of linseed oil over 2 years time.
I trapped with that club for years, it saved my life once in a good ol fashioned stick fight (course his stick was aluminum).

I miss making sticks. Its gonna take a while to start again as I always let them cure 1 year before peeling and carving.

I may post a pic of one later.
Good ol fashioned stick fight? What state do you live in?!

I used to shave with a straight, long ago, and finally remembered how much I used to enjoy shaving with one.

    Other possible reasons:
    • I bleed far less with a straight vs. a DE.
    • Less irritation.
    • Smoother shaves.
    • Closer shaves.
    • Playing with sharp objects is fun.

I just plain like it better.

Default the secret life of a straight guy.....

That’s pretty funny, I’m also 26! When I first tried a straight shave it was about 6 years ago. I was on vaca in GA and needed a hair cut. The barber and I were chatting while he cut my hair and he said he was bored and had just gotten a new razor he was dying to use. Me being the adrenalin junky I am said “whip the little fella out!” That was it, I was hooked! It was the feel of the blade scraping across my skin. Something primal about it. It just feels sooooo good! Besides, I’m an edge weapon freak anyway. lol. Since then I use it as a treat, maybe twice a month before a big date or important day at the office. Skip it in the morning and work a long Saturday, come home tired and shower and “treat” myself. I, unfortunately, have never gone to the quality blade and have only used cheap throwaways. My presence here is meant to change that!

BTW, I enjoy “man day”!! It starts with a longer than usual shower and a nice slow straight shave. Really relish every stroke! Dress well but comfortably and head to the local cigar factory or shop or bar. (there are a few in my area) puff a beautiful cigar I paid too much for, while sipping gran monier on the rocks or a warm red wine and watching a little sports with the sound off and chatting with a few old men and swapping stories. Very zen indeed! The ladies can keep there spa and mani/pedi, I’m “straight” (pun intended…..)

Simply put there is a majesty and pride I take in mastering (or attempting to) a forgotten art. It is truly a labor of love, on that I’m sure we can all agree.
