For those who haven't participated yet, it appears it ain't too late yet! New entries will be used in an updated report, I assume next year or so.

Really interesting. I was surprised (although in hindsight I probably shouldn't have been) how the respondents lined up overwhelmingly on the straight razor side, and more specifically from the SRP camp.

Thanked: 4942Hi Guys,
As I read through the survey again I am seeing things that are drawing my interest and was wondering if any thing here came to mind for you.
I was surprised to see the 84% use of the Badger brush as there has been a large interest from new folks on the Boars Hair and Bristle side in the last year or so. Not so surprised to see how many went for wetshaving or straight razor shaving for a closer shave, but the manly art was up there as well. Another thing that struck me was the amount of younger folks getting interested in wetshaving particularly in the 26-34 year group. I really saw that as a great thing for perpetuating the art through the next few generations. Looks like the learning curve is still somewhat of a deterrent and I wonder how many who participated in the survey had any mentorship as they were learning?
I'll probably go through this a few more times and see what else pops up at me regarding the distribution of our population, etc, but wanted to get some of your thoughts here.
Thanks

No mentor for the shaving part. But for honing, yes.

Done - was a good questionnaire.
My one comment was on that products could use more detailed instructions. As in how to strop, how to apply pastes, how to properly store your razors, what to do to refresh a razor etc....think this would go a long way to encouraging new people into str8 shaving. It can be intimidating for beginners to come on a forum.
Most tend to just ask questions right off, as I'm sure we all did, without necessarily searching the forum. Also, new posters can sometimes phrase things in such a manner as to get responses that they feel are criticisms, hence reticence to participate in forums. Now this forum is very welcoming and encouraging that way, so this is more a general remark. Also, IMO, more detail is better than less.
Cheers!Last edited by Phrank; 12-10-2013 at 03:14 AM.

Thanked: 1160Shaving with a straight wasn't a problem for be but honing eludes me. It's not the instruction near as I can tell but just me. As for the boar brush verses the badger........I love my Semogues.

Thanked: 1184I see mostly younger guys wanting to try a straight. In fact the 6 or so men I have helped get into it are under 30.
Good judgment comes from experience, and experience....well that comes from poor judgment.
