Thanks Randy for the heads up these should be fun. I looked at his website and got a kick out of some names of his soaps.

This is going to be a long read but worth your time if you are coming.

We are now less than a week away from the event. Just to recap what will be happening,
At 9:00 we will kick off with introductions. Starting at 9:30 Lynn Abrams will start his honing demo inside. Randydance is scheduled next with Utopian after Randy’s Honing demonstration. I would encourage those that want to hone or are already honing to get from these men, techniques that will improve your skills.

Here is a surprise addition to the schedule, Spazola - AKA Charlie will be taking my table and will be sharing his honing knowledge & skills as well in the afternoon. Though Charlie does not have a set time as the schedule was already set before we knew he would be joining us, Charlie will be giving his perspective on honing as well in the afternoon.

To answer a question on many peoples mind, Yes there will be free honing at the meet up. However the guys honing have asked that people coming limit it to one razor due to the load and if there is time they will try to do a second razor.

The outside area will kick off at 9:30 as well with demonstrations on restoration work including Clean up, repining, Scale making, and polishing. Your demonstrators for this will be Stropper, AKA Richard & Spazola AKA Charlie. In addition Charlie will also be talking about forging and building custom blades.

Klingspor woodworking, will be doing brush turning and pen turning using a small lathe for the soon to be brush turners in the crowd. Remember you can preorder from Klingspor and have your order delivered to the meetup and get a 10% discount (See post # 195 for information on the preorder). To round up the outside area Dean Collins will be doing a brush turning demo using a drill press. This is something we are looking forward to as an alternative way of doing things.

During the day Rick Boone will be handling the door prizes he has worked to secure, be sure you keep your tickets. Vendors have been wonderful to have sent so many items. Be sure to visit their websites for full information on what they carry, it is always nice to let them know how much you like their products and thanks for sending them in.

There will also be an area where you can bring in your extra soap and try out soaps others have brought in as well. This is a chance to see, feel and smell something you may be interested in. It has been mentioned to bring a sample of your local water and try the soaps under your conditions at home.

Thank you for the kind words, but I can not take the credit. It is a team effort that has done this. If not for them and their selfless acts and hours put in, this would not have happened on the scale it is.
There are even advisors that donated their time that will not even make the event.

When I first heard of Shaving Yeti, I was curious. It's a hobby business, and they were out of stock on, well, everything. I got on Ernie's mailing list, and a couple of weeks ago I got word that their store was restocked. I rushed to their website eager to buy one of each soap, but when responding to the newsletter that had been in my inbox for three hours all that was left was Shore Leave, and Morning Wood. The scents are great, they lather up great, and they are both already in my regular rotation. I eagerly await an opportunity to try his Yeti Snot, and Columbian Necktie. I'm getting pretty excited about this weekend. Maybe I'll take all day Friday getting there, stopping in the 100 or so antique shops on route 441 looking to razors.......

HOW SHARP IS A STRAIGHT RAZOR?

I hope we got your attention with the headline. We do dislike bringing up issues like this, but we must in this case.

You know the old saying: “It was a lot of fun until someone got hurt”

After talking to an attorney about the meet up and legal responsibility, he suggested that we should think about protecting all parties, the team as well as the facility where the event will be taking place. His suggestion is, we have everyone fill out a liability release. After talking it over, and looking at our options, the team knew we could not buy an insurance policy large enough to cover issues.

I have attended many events where releases are required for participation and I am sure most of us have. Releases are common place in many areas where participation is voluntary and not required but do have risk. Since razors do have risk associated with them we have adopted a form that everyone attending will be required to fill out without exception.
Nipper will have the form to fill out during sign in along with your name tag.

Please understand it is not that we expect anything to happen nor do we think anyone would cause issue. But as the attorney pointed out, in a world where a court will award millions for a hot cup of coffee from McDonald's, how much do we figure a straight razor would worth and can we afford to defend against or pay for it?

In closing please except my apologies before hand for future double posting, I will repeat this post several times in the next few days so no one is surprised when they arrive to find this out.

We are extremely sorry for the inconvenience of this, and hope you will understand.

Please stay safe, and remember safety is everyone’s job!
