Thanked: 228Wow that is very tempting. Also very intimidating with all the high power people that seem to be coming for a relative newbie. Only about a five hour drive from Bryan Tx although I may be in California at that time. Not sure though! Sounds like a lot of fun though!

If you do come and meet Howard...you'll find he's the least intimidating man on the planet. Truly a great guy. This event is approaching 'hammer in' status, lol. My experience with hammer in's is that the people who you would think would be the most intimidating, aren't...and tend to fall all over ourselves to make the new guys feel comfortable. We know the future of our craft is in your hands...and treat you with the kindness and respect you deserve.
At least until you prove somehow that you don't lol. Then, watch out .
Honestly though...if this is like the bladesmithing events I've attended, you'll be so busy enjoying yourself you won't remember to be intimidated .

If I can get down I'll absolutely see about bringing some stuff. I don't usually forge razors (I grind them), but my kitchen knives are all forged. I'll see about bringing that first katana down as well lol. It'll likely be me, my back pack, and my bike lol...so space will be at a premium .
Haha, not yet...but I've seen his entire YouTube filmography!! If we get them mixed up just remember Howard has one ear that is much larger than the other, lol. That's why he's called 'Omimi' or 'Big Ear'!!

Well, the weather in the Southwestern US isn't quite the same as it is in TN in February, lol. The winter months here in Phoenix are the most enjoyable for riding honestly. I'm sure it'll be a bit cooler in North Texas, but I can't imagine it being unbearable. We often take day trips up to Flagstaff (7000' above sea level) during the winter. I have warm weather gear and cold weather gear as well...so it should be fine.

North Texas is a very very long drive from Massachusetts but I'm thinking that this may be a trip that's well worth making. Nothing etched in stone yet but I'm giving this some serious consideration.

Thanked: 2204You will enjoy this Razor Meet a lot. We have fun in addition to pounding & grinding steel, honing , making scales and restoring. There is no rigid formality here. Just a bunch of guys who like all things very, very sharp and shiny. Last year I caught a lot of good natured ribbing for wearing a English bowler hat and a pair of red plaid pajamas ! ( they were just warm enough on the coldest part of the morning )
Hope to meet you thereRandolph Tuttle, a SRP Mentor for residents of Minnesota & western Wisconsin
