I live right by Sherlocks, but I'm in an apartment with tiny bathrooms... I'll look into somewhere where we could have access to a bathroom.

Hey Darren, You don't see folks lapping hones in restrooms every now and then?
It would be nice if we could coordinate this event as the Central Texas Meet Up and combine the Dallas group. I don't know if John Crowley would make the trip but we only know if we ask and see who would be willing to make the trip. I think I could get some San Antonio guys to make the trip with me.

Central Texas Meet-up
Ken,
That sounds like a great idea. I am good with either of the two weekends you posted. If we get enough people together we may be able to rent a space. I'll check out the rates on the Zilker Clubhouse or maybe a hotel conference room. Have you guys done anything like that in the past?
Cheers

I couldn't do the June 28th, as I'm meeting up with folks for another one of my hobbies (contact juggling), but any of the other dates would work for me. As for renting a space that would depend on how many people we would draw.

Thanked: 0I'd love to attend this one. Unfortunately, I'll be out of town both of those weekends on the table. If the date ends up changing, you can count me in; no matter the itinerary. Heck, I'll even fire up the barbecue in the back yard.

if it were just me coming down, i doubt it would happen. i just happen to have family somewhat close by and can make an excuse. i would love to see if others will make it. if some were willing to carpool, i bet it would cheapen the whole gas thing quite a bit. let's see what we can do.

Hey guys, I would be interested in an Austin meeting. I was at the last DFW meeting and it was great. I am just as close to Austin as I am Arlington, so either place works for me.
Sundays are bad for me. Saturdays are better, and right now my schedule is pretty open.
Hope this pulls together.

I'd consider coming if there was a carpool, with gas the way it is, I think lots of folks would be interested in that.
dfw->austin=~200 miles each way / 20mpg * 4 bucks a gallon = 80 bucks (at least)

So far at the Dallas meet ups, we have had around a dozen folks. We have only met a Sherlock's. The lighting could be better but the food and beverage selection is good and they don't mind cigars. I don't think we need to rent a room. Some restaurant around there might have a meeting room that we could use and if we buy food and beverages they are usually just happy with that.
The Dallas meets have lasted about four hours. For this first meet up, we might consider an weekend evening if that would accommodate more guys.
Access to a restroom is a plus. What I am planning on presenting does not need any water. Darren (vgod) on the other hand may want to flatten another hone.
I could do variety of demonstrations. I would rather not get into restoration as that involves a lot of gear. I am planning on showing you guys some of the things you can do to maintain your razors and keep the edges sharper hopefully longer with a minimum of equipment.
I'll bring different types of hanging and paddle strops. A couple of barber's hones.
Depending on what I have on my bench for restorations, I might bring some interesting samples. Right now I have a hand full that are over 150 years old that I'm restoring for a member. But I sure hope I'm finished with these before then!
Darren, if you would bring your barber's razor box again, I can demo on some of your razors. Just so you guys wouldn't think I was throwing a ringer in on you with one of "my" razors.
It will be a blast!
