Any interest in a DFW meet up?
It's been a while since us DFW straight shavers got together and did anything... is there any interest in a meetup? I'm just testing the waters for now, but if there is interest it usually takes a month or two to put it all together, so I'm testing early

Thanked: 1936I'd be interested, but me getting off on a weekend is like finding an Escher for $100 on the bay...there's always hope...

I am in. It seems like there have been a lot of new people form the DFW area lately, it should be fun.
Jockeys,
I appreciate your cat herding abilities.

I'd be in if it were the right weekend; easy drive over from Louisiana...

alright, now that there seems to be a little interest, let's start talking specifics.
The usual meeting place (apart from my house in Plano) seems to be Sherlock's Pub in Arlington (which is nice and central for the whole metroplex). I don't mind having it at my place again, but if people prefer the atmosphere and food/drinks of Sherlock's I'm not offended.
If we do it in Arlington, we definitely need to wait until a few weeks AFTER the superbowl, Arlington is a wreck right now. Also, if we're going back to Sherlock's, I have to call them a few weeks out and arrange things.
The general trend has been to have these things on Saturday afternoons, usually right at 12 so that the pub isn't crowded and the evening is still free.
As far as the agenda goes:
We usually have some seminars, last time Kenrup showed us a really nice bit of resto work on a W&B meatchopper that Fritz brought. Spazola usually has some insightful stuff to share about making hones or razors (or anything else... talented guy!) If no one else wants to step up, I can do some honing/double bevel demos. If a newbie shows up, he almost always can get what he needs to get started at one of these events. It's a good time to bring a friend who is getting into straights.
There is also a lot of socializing and a lot of show and tell, sometimes a bit of a swap meet happens, especially if vendors (Kenrup, John Crowley, etc) come and show us their new stuff and sell a bit. Drinks are usually served (depending on when and where, I may or may not have homebrew available, no promises) and sometimes we eat (if at a place that serves food. If not, I can grill or something)
We also usually do some give-aways (I'll be making some soaps, as usual, got some new stuff you guys might like ) Sometimes other vendors and forum sponsors pitch in some goodies.
In general, a good time is had by all. So, talk this up, invite people who may be interested, etc. Sometimes we have up to 20 people at these, the more that come the more fun and the more everyone learns. Please post questions and feedback about dates... when some numbers start firming up i'll get a mod to put up a poll and we'll decide on the when and where. Also, if anyone has any ideas about other places to meetup, please post those as well, we definitely are open to trying new places, but be aware that not all places deal well with a large crowd of people playing with razors
