Here is a newbies thoughts on this weekend. What an amazing time!!!!!!!!! I may not know everyones name by user name or remembered there name but the people I met and the friends I made are priceless. Lynn it was a great time. Mike, Bob, Charlie, Randy and Greg it was great to meet you. All that I learned this weekend was tmi overload. But slowly it will sink in.

If you have never been to one of these meetings, make time to go. The people you meet, the information you get and and the interaction is priceless. Things I was wondering about were answered with a question. Everyone is willing to help and share their knowledge. I couldn't have been more welcomed by total strangers that didn't know me. It was like everyone knew you all of your life and had just seen you the day earlier.

When I got home I was ready to use the straight razor that Lynn honed for me. It was a wade & butcher. Now this was the first time for a true straight razor. I only did my sideburn area and cheeks. WOW, what a shave!!!!!

Speaking of Lynn's hone-fu, I cannot for the life of me find a write-up of Lynn's assembly line honing method. The one with 40x pressure strokes then light strokes. Does anybody have a link to a description of this? Thanks again for the great meet everybody!

Sorry I missed it, sounds like everyone had a great time. I'll plan for next year and hope Dad isn't under the weather. I have been thinking the Oklahoma crew, the few of us that there are of us, should get together with the Arkies and the Missouri crowd for a tri-state meet sometime.

I just realized that there are more people to thank.

First, thanks to Lynn AND Don for donating most of the goodies for the drawings. I got a new strop and a brush. I will be re-gifting the brush but the strop is MINE!

Thanks to Charlie Lewis and Bob Allman for donating razors for the drawings. I got neither, so that sucks, but it was very kind of them to donate the products of their work.

Thanks to Mike Blue for donating a knife for the drawing. I've never been a knife fan, but I was hoping to win yours.

Thanks to David (Alembic) for donating one of his cases. Hopefully he will be happy to know that donating that one has ensured that at least one more of them will be purchased. Though I don't travel with straights, I realized it is the perfect thing to use to take razors to the gym with me for shave testing--much better than the rolled up socks that I have been using to protect them!

Thanks to Sham (Hi_Bud_Gl) for giving me one of his mystery hones and, no matter what else is going on at a meet-up, for being the guy with a razor in one hand and a hone in the other.

Thanks to Mike (Modine) for selling me a Turkish oilstone, though he could have taken a lesson from Sham and given it to me.

Thanks to Kelly (Nun2Sharp) for the strop that I thought of first. I can never get enough time talking with Kelly, so I AM coming down to KC some time this year whether there are guns involved or not.

Thanks to Randy (RandyDance) for bringing his hones. His efforts are going to make a huge impact on the world of straight shaving.

Well, that's about it for now, but thanks to everyone for making this another great weekend.

Thanks to all for the crash course in the straight razor culture. What a great meeting with so much going on, I'm still trying to digest all the information. I know its one thing for us noobs to go to a meeting like this, to lean, but my hats off to the experienced members that came out and shared their passion.

For those of you who have never been to a meet like this, it is well worth the drive. Imagine that at some points of the day there was honing, buffing and razor making going on at the same time!

I enjoyed talking with everyone and picked up so much from such a short meeting. I know I gained some additional interests that I will be kicking around for a while. Look forward to next year!

I had so much going on since getting back on Sunday night that I hadn't had time to post (or shave for that matter). Let me say that this meet up was one of the best times that I have ever had. I felt honored to be welcomed into the home of the Chief Honemeister himself :.

Everyone (I apologize for the generic, but if I list all the names I can remember, I'll leave someone out and feel terrible about it), thanks for showing off your gear, sharing your knowledge, and for hanging out. I had a blast! I'll summarize by saying, any weekend where you can play with sharp stuff, fire, & firearms has got to be one to remember and this one sure was!

I took video of the grinding and heat treat. I'll post once I've edited it.
