Thanked: 114Hello gents,
I was working on another set of buffalo horn scales last night to go with the set I created last week and I messed up the tip and had to reshape the scales. The result is a perfectly fine scale blank, but it is now too short to fit any of my razors. I was going to throw away the scales (or use the material for wedges??), but I got to thinking ……
If any of you have a short razor that needs a new set of scales, bring it along to the meeting and you/we can finish the scales and install them on your shorty. Don’t let the ugly photos put you off – the grey buffalo horn polishes up to a wonderfully shiny jet black finish and we can easily complete the project during the session’s set time schedule. Could be a lot of fun!
To work, the razor needs to be shorter than 4 5/16 inches, measured from the blade’s pivot hole to the toe (give or take a little to allow room for the wedge).
Sorry for spamming this thread with annoying multiple posts. Can you tell I’m excited to meet everyone on the 2nd?

We're just a few days out. My daily shaver has a half moon nick in it. If you would like a crack at honing it up from scratch, with direct step by step instruction provided please send me a PM with the time you plan to arrive at the meet. This will be a one time opportunity to learn honing a razor all the way from dull/nicked to shaving sharp for one (lucky?) member!!

I plan on being there on Sunday. This is my first event with SRP. Do we need to bring anything?

I'll throw in a slight caveat to that - I plan on bringing scale and wedge materials in case anyone is up for any trades. So, if you're into doing restorations and have any materials, pieces, odds-n-ends etc you'd like to swap out for something else feel free to bring 'em.

Looks like the kitchen pass is approved, so the Beagle will be on hand...

Couldn't get a sitter for Saturday so I'm taking the wife out for her Birthday on Sunday.
Have fun out there. Was hoping to get to mess with that razor. And learn how to pin scales. I think I've finally gotten the hang of bevel setting and touching up with a 12k but the middle is a mystery still.

I was looking forward to meeting you! I'm moving back to Stephens City, up north of you. You are always welcome and I could meet you in say Woostock sometime if you're still having trouble, in the future.
