Thanked: 45Thanks to everyone who made this event possible. Tom for hosting and teaching me more than a thing or two about honing, Charlie and Bob, whose brains I rigorously picked about all aspects of razor making. Jim, Dograh, cajun, Treno, and the rest of y'all for being such decent human beings. I had a great time fellas. We need to do it again soon!
Went home and shaved with the razor I honed with Tom at the meet:
Corrected the (slightly) frowning edge with a DMT and set the bevel. Then Naniwa 1K, Norton 4k and 8k, Naniwa 12k, finished on an Escher. Stropped on Tom's crazy collection of strops (balsa with chromeox then ferricox, then a "magic" black rubber one, then a number of different leathers, and finally a beautiful Neil Miller.
Do I even need to tell y'all how it shaved?Let me know if you need any help with shaving, honing, etc.

I've finally defrosted from my motorcycle ride back to Dallas and wanted to thank Tom and everyone else for an incredible event! I really enjoyed meeting everyone, eating great food and learning a lot. I haven't stopped shopping for new razors, hones, and strops since seeing the incredible stuff some of the guys had but as long as I don't come home with straight razor wind chimes I should be ok!

Thanked: 3I'll apologize in advance for my potential long-windedness:
1. Thanks to Tom and his family for their gracious hospitality. Wonderful hosts!! Also, I am mui envious of Tom's restored barber's chairs.
2. For a first timer, it is hard to express the feeling of being able to sit down and talk about natural vs. synthetic, tape-no-tape, slurry or not, and not feel like an alien.
3. Big thrill to meet Charlie and Bob, real artist in steel. Having only experienced my ebay blades, it is impossible to describe the feeling of holding one of these guys' razors: I thought 6/8s was big. Special thanks to Bob for not laughing at me when I thought the Frog Lube on his blade was an artistic scratch pattern.
4. Last, my wife asked what the average age was. I told her probably about 45 but only a couple were close to the average. Most were either in their twenties or sixties. No generation gap here.
Thanks again to everyone for a great time!!

Tom thanks for hosting. I had a great time. Thanks for letting see your Ruger over and under. Damn nice rifle.
Charlie thanks for donating the brush. Works pretty good.
Thanks everyone who donated and everyone who showed up. It was fun and hope to do it again sometime soon.
I am glad everyone enjoyed the pork tenderloin. Maybe next time I can bring something else.

Thanked: 3Thanks Tom for a wonderful event. You have a beautiful family and they are just as awesome as you are. Met a great group of guys and was really humbled at how genuine and gracious everyone is. As a "newb", it truly is great to be around such a group as this. You guys set the bar high and will contribute to my RAD. Thanks again and hope we can do it again soon.
