@Janneke and the Bos family: my deepest sympathy.
Henk was a remarkable man. I met him and his wife once when they came to have supper with us on their way to Scandinavia where he would explore what was left of natural hone quarries and mines and talk to people who had extracted the stones. They traveled in an old Volkswagen van powered with solar panels that would allow them to survive almost anywhere in world. He was a very enthusiastic and knowledgeable collector of natural sharpening stones.Plus ça change, plus c'est la même chose. Jean-Baptiste Alphonse Karr.

A true gentleman. I have exchanged several emails with him, so got some idea of the man. My first badger brush came from him 15 years ago and to this day looks beautiful. Condolences.

I'm so sorry to hear about your loss :) he sounds like he was a great man and that he touched many lives from many countries. I am happy to hear that his work will be continued on and/or finished.

Indeed, My sympathies. I did not know him, but in reading this thread he was greatly respected here by many senior members.
I look forward to reading his work. May he rest in peace. The best to his family.

Very sad news this. My condolences to his family and friends. I met with him when he visited Oslo, and his knowlegde and kindness was most inspiring. He will be missed, but his legacy will live on.

Thanked: 3164Condolences to the family.
I never met Henk, but helped him out with samples from the UK when he was researching his first book, and corrected some of the errors for him.
He did come to see me once over here in the UK, but just my luck - I was out!
Goodbye, Henk...
Regards,
Neil

With much sadness, my condolences. It is always especially hard when an artist and craftsman passes on.
