Tierdaen, thanks. Do you know what the stamp on the left says?

Everyone else: thanks for the chuckles!

I think the small one is Betsu Ju (別上).
    Tierdaen, is that correct?
In case it is it means "High Quality"

    Thanks!

Appreciate it. You know, one of the Japanese readers here should post a comprehensive stamp translation, including all the mines, the grades (aoto, binsui, etc) and the other blah blah...

    Yeah something like that.
Betsujyou has been translated as "Superior selected grade" but I'm not sure I like that translation. Further, I haven't seen much that offers any real indication of stone quality in those stamps and they seem very general like "best quality" stickers on Chinese electronics. With Asano nagura you know that those grades have a meaning with regard to whiteness and shape, but for base stones they don't seem anywhere near as consistent.

The sticker bothers me and I'm not sure why.

Imanishi is a large company associated with Bester stones & probably others as well. They no doubt retail Jnats also.
As Tierdaen said, however, ink stamps are no guarantee of provenance. That the stone works for you is what's VIP.

Follow up: because of your help I was able to negotiate this down significantly. It's a very, very nice stone with a 'silky' feel.

I have to say, I've had remarkable 'pure dumb' luck w/eBay stones.
