Large Welsh hone
Hi gents,
I bought a big (8 x 3) hone from AJ on eBay.
I was looking for a large natural finisher, so I think this was a good hone that some of you have been using it and so I pulled the trigger.
The hone is really big and will be handy to hone the razors.
Any of you have bought from AJ these kind of hones lately?

Thanked: 3215I have purchase several stones from AJ and they are all nice stones.
I have 3 of the one listed in various sizes and they are capable of producing a finished edge. They do slurry easily and plentifully, experimentation with dilution will serve you well and are a good value.
As with all naturals all stones are different and produce varied results, but I think you will be happy with your purchase. 8X3 is a nice size.
I slurry with a 600 diamond plate.

I have an 8x3 & I was told he was the source of it. It is my best finisher to date. I don't slurry it, don't feel the need to,,,,, I start it just off after a Norton 8K,,,,depending on the razor, 80 to 140 strokes, then strop.

I don't know what a Welsh Thuringian is. I believe it is Welsh Slate, heavy as h*** .
Considering it was cheap $40.00 & came from one of our members who knows stones, I doubt seriously its a Thuringian.

It is not a Thuringian because it wasn't sourced from Thuringia, Germany.
What Jerry wanted to know is if we were talking about the Welsh Thuringian, which is a "nickname" for this Welsh hone.
I have a LM already, but smaller and have been having good results, but I've been reading some distinct clues. For example, slurry or no slurry? What kind of slurry? How many passes?
What have your experiments been with this hone?

He sells great hones, I especially like his 15K

I purchased the ~15k stone from AJ earlier this year. I was originally wanting a Naniwa 12k, but couldn't justify the price at the time, as I was transitioning between jobs and money was tight. Looked for alternatives, found AJ's stuff on eBay, did a google search and found threads on here that people liked them. I messaged AJ asking for just one of the stones rated at around 15k. He gave me an excellent price and it was shipped to me from overseas in mere days. I was amazed with the results I got from it. I found it works well with the slurry stone and without. I actually worked off of a Norton 8k, then did the 15k Welsh with slurry, then washed it off and my razor and used just water for the last 25 laps or so. Best shave ever!!! I am so glad I went with this over the Naniwa. Saved me so much money and the results are just too good. I highly recommend these stones. Don't hesitate. Just try one for yourself!

Thanked: 433I have one and I like it very much! Mine came as part of a three hone set (Dragons tongue, Yellow Lake (Llyn Melynllyn) and a dark grey 15k listed stone). They all perform as listed for me. My Yellow lake has great feedback when honing

Thanked: 3215I use it after a 12K super stone, raise a bit of slurry with a diamond plate and dilute the slurry to just water until the edge feels as smooth as it is going to get, maybe 60 -80 laps.
You can raise thicker slurry when used after an 8k and do a few more laps, just experiment a bit.
It is a nice finisher giving a comfortable edge.
