Thanked: 4942Running into stubborn razors is just part of honing. It simply happens periodically. Sometimes putting them down for a bit helps, sometimes not. There are a ton of tools at your disposal, but the trick is not trying them all when a razor is problematic. 90 percent of the honing I do is not honing. It is repairing the damage that someone else has done to the razor. Some times just really examining the wear, shape, spine and bevel helps. Sometimes the microscope helps. I really believe that the biggest help for me has been to learn to put one down rather than letting it get to the point of frustration.
Have fun.

Feel the Zen, and all that. Every once in a while I have a friend come over and I hone up a razor or two for him as well as a couple of my own. The last couple times I just could not get a single friggin' razor to shave ready. He came over again this past Saturday with a new acquisition for me to hone up and I told myself the day before, "just chill, focus on the 1k setting the bevel; don't get anxious and jump to the 4k, just focus focus focus. If the bevel isn't set, DON'T MOVE!!!". Haha, as Lynn said sometimes you just gotta put the chunk of metal down and take a breath. Hope you have a better honing session soon,
Andrew

Thanked: 2Everyone here had to learn. If I had to do it all over again, I'd ask Max to hone and get a Naniwa 12k as a finisher and keep refreshing the edge
