The last 2 razors I have tried honing have been unsuccessful. The latest is a Henckels which had a bent spine. Slightly, but enough to be a PITA. The previous one was a Crown extra hollow ground. Not sure what the issue is with that.
Just sharing my frustrations.

Thanked: 5I hear you. I have an Olean Wedge that is kicking my butt. Repeated bevel sets, various honing methods, and I just can't get a shaveable edge. I'm a beginner, but I've been successful with other razors. I'm about to cry 'uncle' on this one.

There are razors that make you want to throw them....
Just figure I NEED to learn more...
It is FRUSTRATING though for SURE!

Thanked: 177Regarding tape, each layer adds a degree to the bevel angle. When that angle is already altered by wear or possible mishoning, then it can easily get to a point where the blade will NEVER shave well. There is a honing angle matrix on this site somewhere. Calculate it before you slap 5 layers of tape on a blade that may be 25 degrees already.
