Thread: How is the Norton 1000?

I have 2 norton combo stones the 250/1k and 4k/8k. The 1K side sets a bevel well for me but i need to hone under a waterfall to keep it wet. Very thirsty but a decent stone

^Same combos here, as well as a lee valley Sigma Select 2 13K stone. All those and finishing on balsa with CrOx has been the winning combination for this newb. Couldn't be happier, although I love the Norton 4K so much that I tend to go a little overboard with it on my utility knives, and now it looks like a boomerang! I will be ordering a new 4K solo stone, as the 8K backing on the combo stone has help up fairly well so far.

Yes, the 250 especially and the 1K just can't get enough water, I keep a cup of water on the side to keep them moist.

Even when honing in a setup that keeps the Norton 1k 75% submerged, it still requires a spritz about every ten laps. It works, but there are better options.

Clogs easily from my experience, slower cutter than Chosera. Still a solid stone in my opinion, but if I could do it over again I would have gotten Chosera. I make the Norton work for now though and get good results.
