    Default Are these stones Charnley Forest

    Hello,
    Please help me ID these stones! They are quite heavy and very hard to lap, after one hour of work with an Atoma 400 i can say I'm in the middle of straightening proces.

    They look a bit like moughton whetstones, I don't think they're Charnley Forest Hones.

    @rachim: were did you get these from, from the bay ?
    @Piet: not like moughton, a bit comparable because of the swirls......

    There are quarries all over the world producing rocks fine enough to be used to hone razors. Hard to tell.

    Someone who really knows natural European sharpening stones and hones is Henk Bos. Here's a link: http://straightrazorpalace.com/hones...teresting.html

    doorsch, yes because of the swirls They do look more like the Ordovician Thuringian Hones.

    Thats why i linked to Hatzichos Thread....even not knowing what these stones are......
    I also thought on JNS / Japanese Stones that why i asked Rachim about the source....

    Thanks for the help. I'll send a mail to Hank Bos in a couple of hours when i get home.
    I don't think the stones are JNS. I forgot to mention that the smaller stone is glued to a rough black stone

    Yes, like coticules but the black side is rough, under 1k and I believe is not is natural!
