If that’s sandstone it very even matrix. I haven’t found any sandstone with a nice even matrix. That would be a nice find even if it is just a hone shaped rock, because it would give me hope to keep looking.

Slate comes in all kinds of colours.

Well I'm honestly not sure it's sandstone but I am pretty sure it's not limestone. Living in Florida you get pretty used to seeing limestone. The whole state sits on a bed of it and they quarry it here in this area. I used to go cliff diving in some of the abandoned pits near here. I know there are different kinds of limestone, and I haven't seen all of them but I would be really surprised if this was. Also I did the vinegar test (that's how we get it out of our pipes and off the shower floors and walls) and I got not even one little bible after at least 30 minutes.

It looks like sandstone to me. You can check for limestone with acid. Lots of aeolian sandstone is even grain like that, we have lots of it out here. My experience is that if they're fine enough to use, they're too slow to be practical.

Unlapped it seemed very coarse but not crumbly like the sandstone we have here. I was hopeful but maybe it's just a pretty rock.

It might come in handy if I have a lot of papers on my desk on a really windy day.
