Good judgment comes from experience, and experience....well that comes from poor judgment.

Thanked: 3215Yes it does look like a Fox hone, they were boxed very similar to your. The slurry looks like my Vosginne hone here. Do you have a photo with the slurry washed off?
It should be a good finisher post 8K, use a lite slurry and dilute to clear water.
Nice find.

Thanked: 3795The only Fox hone I've seen is the Fox 44, and they look like yellow green Eschers. Has anyone seen a brown Fox hone?

I think this is brown Thuri...
Mostly these stones were sold as Goldfisch Wetzstein/Fox Razor Hone...there were examples were the Fox Label was just glued over with the Goldfisch label here:
http://straightrazorpalace.com/hones...your-pick.html
I got a other one which i guess is the same stone also sold under another label:

In my thinking ist more a dark red stone then a brown one...the question is if that stone was cleaned/lapped completely if not the colour could be more brownish probably as used with oil...Stone is also known as Pierre Lorraine Rouge/Rouge Du Salm more is explained at Henks Grinding and Honing Part 4, Pages 47/48...
As there was a thinking on the Vosges / Vosgesienne / Vosgienne stone more can be found on the french hones thread:

Thanked: 3215Lap with a fine grit plate I finish on a 1200 DMT and raise a light slurry and dilute with drops of water when the water is clear, then add 2-3 drops of Smith's Honing Solution a water soluable oil. Smith's will not stain or harm your stone.
It will give you a very slick feel on the stone. Do 15 - 20 laps on the Smiths for a very nice polished finished edge. I have shaved off the stone or stropped on Chrome Oxide or .50 CBN.
