Just had a thought..Thanks to Glen. The source of the stones' manufacture and perhaps changes in composition may be the culprit:naniwa chosera | eBay
Mine is a newer hone I bought a year ago, Glen's is years old. I did also have crazing trouble with one batch of Ice Bear/King stones which i returned and received new ones.
I guess it is 'follow instructions' with the newer hones.
