I have two of them from France and I'm also not sure whether they're coticules or not.

Thanked: 21yes there is the chance that is not a coticule I post coticule.be and response
I'm not sure this is a Coticule. The surface does look like that lf a
dirt-covered Coticule, but it's the color of the slurry that causes doubt.
Normally, a dirty (or sometimes merely darkened through age) Coticule can be
cleaned with a kitchen pad (e.g. Scotch Brite). It should look pale
afterwards. Also the slurry should look milky pale, with only a slight hue,
not so mud-colored like in hour picture.
maybe it just needs a bit more cleaniing, or maybe it's just a sifferent type
of stone.
Best regards,Last edited by antoine46; 04-14-2014 at 08:54 PM.

Doorsch, concerned your hones do what?
I think the stone in that R&S thread is different. In their French Thuri's thread there are similar stones. That thread is what made me doubt them being coticules

I had a coticule with a similar color. Does yours smell like oil? I wonder if it has been used with oil, causing the darker color slurry.

Thanked: 4249I had a similar stone from France as well, 7 X 1 1/2, and quite thick 1/2 to 5/8. No common backing either no sign of BBW. I fixed the stone to a wooden base, and sealed the sides and ends with beeswax, worked quite well.
Honestly i was positive mine was a coticule.

[/ QUOTE]
