I rehoned the razor. I went up to 12k then on to the HGH with 5 drops of sewing machine oil. Half my face straight off the home. Smooth sharp shave. Stop 50 on leather. Couldn't even feel the edge on my face. Super smooth shave.

Finally got to try a shave off of the HGH that I got at the Calgary meet up.

The first HGH I had gave a great smooth shave, but left just a bit to be desired in the sharpness department. This one is lacking in neither, I dare say I prefer it to the Escher edges I have.

I took one of my old reliables, a Griffon Carbo-Magnetic, and gave it a few passes on my 8k, just to take it to a pre-finish state, then slurried the new HGH using the old one as a nagura. After raising a slurry, I worked it a bit to try and break it down a little. 40ish passes on slurry, and then 30-50 on the strop. It was a great shave, took down a 2 week beard not problem, sharp, smooth, no after burn. These are the only stones that haven't given me any post-shave burn.

This will be my finisher of choice going forward.
    Jon

Being the lucky owner of two different hones coming from Shaun, I've had to test their finish separatly on two similar razors for quite a time.

The opportunity is showing as I just got a pair of NOS vintage solingen razors.

Well, it was a flash BIN from a cutler vintage stock, quite a steal I have to say.

6 to go, I bought two. In less than 20 minute there were none left.
