If anybody would have read this thread properly, i should be clear that this is not a short travel set...
As the first post was leaving home for a certain longer area, so for all of us showing significant signs of HAD...it might be useful to take the gear....███▓▒░░.RAZORLOVESTONES.░░▒▓███

Yeah, just to clarify, I'm going to be gone for three months. If you can go that long without your honing gear for all the razors I'll likely pick up during those months, you're a better better man than I!
State v. Durham, 323 N.W. 2d 243, 245 (Iowa 1982) (holding that a straight razor is per se a "dangerous weapon").

Any pick and pluck foam filled hard case.
If you want a reasonably priced one and your not looking to get the gear wet then a company called "KR multicase" do a model case for wargames that would work.
KR have various case styles. https://www.krmulticase.com/cases.aspx?s=T
The cheapest been just a card box filled with the foam of your choice.
The more expensive ones been aluminum again with the foam of your choice.
The core range of foam would be ideal and is included in the price.
The site is pretty hard to navigate but there are a lot of options if your looking for a permanent storage solution. The foam also fits the cases with very little movement, and is very soft. If there good enough to hold a few hundred pounds worth of war-gaming miniatures they will work for rocks as well!
There is also a more professional option a company called battlefoam do a custom cut service. The foam fits directly into the correct cases usually each foam tray is 15"x12" and you select the depth. Then just go to town selecting your boxes to make a bespoke hone tray.
The Battle Foam Custom Tray Creator
The problem with using different companies for foam and cases is the cases/foam are all different sizes based on the company. KR are the best hard case's that don't cost the earth, so if you could make do with there pick and pluck system you can get a case that's going to protect everything and not break the bank as much as a pelicase.

Using the battle foam system you can make trays that look like this. And they do a 3" deep tray.
Just cut out the bits to make your hones fit perfectly...
That tray should fit
6 hones, 8 razors double stacked in boxes, and a brush.
There could be room for a few DTM's as well if you dropped 1 hone slot.

Ok, I was thinking 3 or 4 weeks tops.
If it's just for this trip then you could get away with bubble wrap, but if this is an annual occurrence or your collection will eventually be big enough, then I say Go Big or Go Home!
Foam padding is easy enough to come by. Take your time and pick the case you like best. There have already been some excellent suggestions. You might also try photography sites where you'll find some tough well locking cases.

I like Hirlau's idea of a sleeping bag. Put in one stone and add the others as you roll. :-]
If this is an out and back trip for the summer I would get a roll of paper towels. Start with the Nortons in their boxes at the bottom of your milk crate. Keep them tight and add the rest as you go wrapping them in the paper towels. Use the paper towels over the summer while honing and wrap them for the return trip. As long as they don't bounce you should be fine!

Hey joel, look up the thread called "how do you store your hones". I spent about $55 on a fake pelican case with foam that you can pull 1cm cubes out of, and then a few $ on some 5mm foam, then i just laid my hones and stuff in it, cutting 5mm foam to suit when i stacked things.
I can fit:
1x 20mm chosera 1k plus the orange rock thing they give you with it,
1x 10mm 3k naniwa,
1x 10mm 8k naniwa,
1x 20mm 10k naniwa,
1x 10mm 12 k naniwa,
1x atoma plate,
1x loupe,
1x pencil,
1x roll of tape,
1x small pair of scissors,
A few project razors.
All of the hones are on bases too.
The case is about 210mm x 300mm x 100mm ish i think, so it is is nice and compact BUT it is pretty heavy.Bread and water can so easily become tea and toast
