Thread: Traveling with my Gear

Hey everyone, I'm packing up and getting ready to leave for the summer, and of course I'm bringing all my gear with me. The question is:

What is the safest, easiest way to transport a number of hones in the old minivan, keeping in mind my wife, kids and other gear needs to come with? (and yes, SWMBO and the kids are NOT negotiable)

I have:

5 Nortons, (I kept the cases for all these)
a DMT, (this thing is like a projectile, came in a cardboard sleeve, long gone)
a Naniwa 12k, (came in a box, think I still have it)
a plastic tub I use, a stone holder, and a few other misc. bits (tape, loop, towels, LOTS of bandaids)
about 3 project razors, at least a shoe-box full of stuff, maybe more(hoping to pick up a few on the road at antique stores) and a bunch of tools.

PLUS all my shaving gear. I don't think my wife is going to be to pleased.

So, ya'll are a TALENTED and resourceful bunch, any tips or ideas?

I was just planning on putting stuff as carefully as I could into individual boxes, and then putting everything in a milk crate. Am I crazy? Will this work?

I have a wood box all my hones go in, that will fit in my large duffel bag if needed (trip to Asheville). Blades in cigar box, pvc tube brush holder, soaps and aftershave products in a cosmetic bag with tooth brush, toothpaste hair brush etc. Not a lot of space when packed right, and travels well that way for me.

I suggest a sleeping bag,,,,cause you're going to be sleeping on the floor a lot, when your wife see's all that shaving "junk" you are bringing,,,

There is a thread here I will try to find that gave ideas & photos of shaving cases that members put together. I copied a idea from Birnando on some of my stones.

How to pack your hones??,,,,so many ways.

If money is no problem, there is always Pelican cases,,,,

As this does not really fit in the Travel Kit (as i see this one as a smal kit beeing on Holidays or in working travel) here is my BIG Travel Bag....

as you mentioned leaving over a longer period of time i stored my hones in some metall cases filled out with synthethic foam...all
the stones are stored in there really safely, the boxes size is about 40x60cm....mine is comparable to the one Hirlau has....

I'll have to get my case of rare PHIG's out of the safe & get a photo up later tonight,,,,,

Without being a smart-ass, do you need to take all of that stuff? That would be my first suggestion. For a cheaper alternative, you could put the hones into thick socks, wrap them all in something padded and they should all fit easily into a rucksack.

I would just prep a few razors as backup for emergencies and leave the stones at home.

Unless your plan is to pack a case of razors and want to spend your leisure honing.

I'd rather hone at home and spend my vacation vacationing.
