OK. Here's what happened. I have a full hollow and a wedge. Well near wedge anyways. I had to hone the full hollow because I breadknifed a chip out of it. And the wedge I wanted to improve on. Using a king 1k/6k waterstone a balsa strop with CrOx and a strop I got god but not ideal results. The imp(hollow) passed HHT but didn't feel as sharp cutting arm hair above skin. My duck(wedge) wouldn't pop a hanging hair but made hair on my arm pop off above skin level and generally felt sharper. So I guess I'll have to see what the shave is like.

That is the actual test. I think you do have everything you need. Those ultra highgrit stones are worth every penny, but you can get shaven well without.
My setup is even less sophisticated. I have a rough 600 grit DMT to set the bevel on my Gold Dollars. The Belgian Blue Whetstone I intended for that is too slow. So I short cut with the DMT. After that, I use only the BBW in steps until I'm only on water, which should be around 6000 grit. Then I use a Crox strop and get a mirror like polish on my edge. Finally leather strop and done.
Daddy or Grandpa didn't have Naniwa Superstones and such and honed and shaved according to lifetime experience. No offense against the Super Stone Friends here. They are of great help and worth their money.
Good Luck,

Hopefully I get a reply in next hour or so. Does anyone know much about Boss barber hones? I'm in a "negotiation" for one an wanted to get some expert insight.

Save money for 2-3 barber hones & you can buy a good 12k. Just thinkin out loud.
The white gleam of swords, not the black ink of books, clears doubts and uncertainties and bleak outlooks.

Not saying that but the 'best' barber hones can go for more than a 12k. Look up prices on eBay for Norton barber hones.
On the other foot a 'good' barber hone will be 1/2 the price of a 12k.
I just know that I would have saved heaps if I'd bought the stones I have now but maybe would have learnt less along the way.The white gleam of swords, not the black ink of books, clears doubts and uncertainties and bleak outlooks.

Here's my plan. I just won a boss barber hone for 15.50 with shipping. I have a king 1k/6k already. I am getting the ch12k from woodcraft on Tuesday(live about 25 miles from a retail location). And debating on a taidea 8k. What do y'all think? I also have a pastes balsa with CrOx and pasted felt with CrOx.
