hmm, I thought that lapping flat my vintage coticule was a tedious job....

for course lapping I had the feeling that lapping on dry sand paper was actually a lot quicker, maybe someone with more experience can confirm or deny this?

Lapping on lapidary grit on a thick and level glass plate is an order of magnitude quicker than using a small diamond plate in my experience - just think of the increase in area of a 2ft x 2ft bit of glass over a measly 10" x 8" plate.

The drawback is that the edges are 'cushioned' by the grit and the surface of the stone becomes humped somewhat in the middle, so you have to go for a proper cast iron plate with channels for grit, wet and dry paper on glass (not sandpaper - sheds grit everywhere) or the DMT for final lapping.

    Regards,
    Neil

That's a nice stone. I had a couple and both could put a nice edge on a razor. Congrats

From the picture is hard to say anything. Can you give more details and picture with different background?
