Charnley Forest hone?
I got this hone at the last week (or should I say rock, as its a big lump)
Im guessing its a Charnley Forest I have looked at ALL the threads on the stones here and in the wiki already
It was an arse to lap (it was not dished much, but still needed lapping) I seem to have lost most of my weekend on it lol. Im hoping to get some razors onto it next week
Its a lovely looking stone and im happy to have it.
It did come in a wooden base, it was in poor condition but kept the stone safe for years so cant complain too much.

Definitely looks like a CF to me, and a pretty one at that. Hope it works as good as it looks.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Charnley Forest hone?
Nice CF....try it out how this one is performing....
Haha these are my most hated stones directly followed after a Turkey Oil Stone / Pierre de L'est when lapping...███▓▒░░.RAZORLOVESTONES.░░▒▓███

Thanked: 24hmm, I thought that lapping flat my vintage coticule was a tedious job....
for course lapping I had the feeling that lapping on dry sand paper was actually a lot quicker, maybe someone with more experience can confirm or deny this?

Thanked: 3164Lapping on lapidary grit on a thick and level glass plate is an order of magnitude quicker than using a small diamond plate in my experience - just think of the increase in area of a 2ft x 2ft bit of glass over a measly 10" x 8" plate.
The drawback is that the edges are 'cushioned' by the grit and the surface of the stone becomes humped somewhat in the middle, so you have to go for a proper cast iron plate with channels for grit, wet and dry paper on glass (not sandpaper - sheds grit everywhere) or the DMT for final lapping.
Regards,
Neil

Hi,
i've bought yesterday a Charnley forest...but now i have doubts.
the seller have good feedback...but the colour isn't like other stones...what do you think?"Consider well the seed that gave your birth: you were not made to lives as brutes, but to following virtue and knoweledge"
Dante's The Divine Comedy:Inferno XXVI.
