Yes the UFs certainly take the bite out of the Atomas also. I had a 4oo with a tiny high spot & just used the corner of a UF to knock it down. Problem solved in seconds.

The best way to lap UF's that I found was with a slurry of SiC powders starting@ 80 grit or lower on float glass. Very fast & saves the diamond plates. Diamond powder slurries would work too but more exe.

The white gleam of swords, not the black ink of books, clears doubts and uncertainties and bleak outlooks.

Lol i think i will avoid the spyderco hones. They may be nice hones (if they are from spyderco i would imagine they are, ive not come across one of their products that have not been well made) but if lapping them is a royal pain in the ass ill pass and stick with the Naniwas

Good suggestion. SiC is the preferred method for novaculite that can be honed flat (I have used hard roller at the end of a belt sander when more is needed than hand lapping).

think of attempting to lap solid porcelain (not necessarily ceramic, but porcelain with no pores - that's what it's like). But they don't need to be lapped real often. They definitely are an acquired taste if you like a stone that just cuts uniformly at the same speed - because they don't do that.

My phig scratches my suehiro. The suehiro is hard I agree, but in my case my phig anyway is harder. Close in size but the phig is much heavier. Maybe 7% larger but 50% heavier. 1105 grams vs 720 gms.
