    Someone had mentioned to me it looks like a queer creek hone. Any thoughts ?

    Could be. There are several different looks for queer creek hones, but grayish is one of them. I've got a brown one that's pretty fine and not very fast (but not razor finishing fine). The grayer ones could've just been labeled synthetic stones.
