cutting a hone
So my dogs were kind enough to pull my hone tub off the counter while i had my Nortons soaking. The 220/1k was a bit chipped up but nothing that a good lapping on my dmt couldn't fix. My 4k/8k was not so lucky. the 4k side has a crack that goes about a third of the way across the stone and all the way to the middle.
I have already obtained and new 4/8 but I had a thought today that i might be able to cut the old one length wise and just have a narrow stone.
My question is what is the best way to go about cutting a hone and is it something i can do by hand. I don't have much in the way of power tools right now.*Insert deep thought/profound statement here*

I haven't done it but I have read where they have been cut with a hacksaw. I used a tile saw to cut a coticule, worked great.

Thanked: 1184Diamond blade would do it best. You can get these to fit 4" grinders,7" grinders, skill saws, tile saws. You might want to look into renting one of those or find a buddy that has 1. Buy the blade yourself to be cool to your friend. It probably won't be worth much when your done. 10 to 20 bucks depending on where you go and what you get. (blade wise)
Good judgment comes from experience, and experience....well that comes from poor judgment.

I once cut a slurry stone off of an 8" coticule with a carbide hacksaw. Arduous labor. That was going across the 2" width.

I know of one guy who took a hone to a machine shop and the guy cut something or other on a bandsaw lengthwise. ff you have access to someone who will trash their blade that is doable.

I took a 4" coticule to a tile setter working in the condo. He had a water saw set up on the lawn and I marked the coticule to make slurry stones. Cut them clean and quick as neat as you please.Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Googling 21 carbide blade only comes up with band and table saw stuff. Do you mean something like this hacksaw blade ?
