I would like nothing more that to post images, But unfortunately I am playing house to one of the strays from work. He got kicked out by his mum last night and none of the sheltered housing offices open till Monday.
You should be pleased to note, I'm currently sat here stroking a rock like Blofeld strokes that Persian cat.

I'm very happy with it regardless of what it is. It's certainly not a poor hone.

Ebay unidentified hone!!
Good you left some rest of the coarser area :-) just took the description from my site:
Very hard/dense schist which can be used either with water or with oil. Was also sold as
1) Cambrock "Silkstone Razor Hone Whetting Stone" [brown label/packaging]
2) Silver Grit (not confirmed) [red labe/packagingl]
3) Silkstone Razor and Whetting Hone, British Made [green Label]
Indicators:
1. looks very coarse on the unused/unlapped side
2. chamfered sides are rough cutted
3. has a kind of a silk alike 3D shimmering effect when water is applied to the lapped side
4. slurry is kind of greyish white
Here are comparable pictures of the sawmarks and the rougher areas on ghe back from my 2 stones:

I think we have a winner
how did you find that stone in terms of razor finish and smoothness.
I found the stone very soft, but then again you have seen the rock I have been working! Compared to those HCF's and Diorites this is like talc!Last edited by Iceni; 08-03-2014 at 09:16 AM.

Mhh some wrote there comparable to thuringian stones....i do not think so talking about smoothness...however these are finishing stones which can leave a very nice edge...they can be used with water creating a slurry but also with oil...
To be open these are stones i bought but i did not really test often or well...i tried them about 5 times...███▓▒░░.RAZORLOVESTONES.░░▒▓███
