Came today & lapped it up in 5 min on my well worn DMT 325. Very green, very heavy, very smooth surface after lapping. This should be fun...
EDIT: just reset a bevel. Did circles, half strokes & a few other things. Fast, doesn't glaze, fast, great feedback, fast, needed minimal lapping afterward to clean & just to reiterate: fast!
Feedback feels a lot like the GS which I also took on their maiden voyage. Seems very similar in feel albeit slightly harder, making it a natural before the progression. When done on the stone, the razor seems like it wants to stick to the stone & starts chattering. Sharpness tests then reveal a very clean bevel that shaves arm hair effortlessly i.e. a set bevel. There is simply no comparison in feedback w/ the other 1k hones I've used. Glad I finally joined the club!Last edited by PA23-250; 09-09-2014 at 04:29 AM. Reason: Laphroaig-induced typos

I just got the old version aka the green brick with slurry stone. Can't wait to use it!

Mine doesn't. Not sure you'd really need it though--just leave the slurry on after lapping w/ your diamond plate.
Speaking of, how long (if @ all) are people soaking these? I'm assuming the new would be like the old one. I've tried splash & go but find it still drinks. I've been just running it under the tap or in a tupperware for 3-5 min max & it works well.

The slurry stone is supposed to be used to clean off swarf, etc between lappings, not just for slurry per se.

The 1k should just b splash and go..Haven't heard anybody soaking the 1k.. if its thirsty it will slow down with use. Keep spraying it heavy water until it stays wet then hone

Thanked: 177I just splash amd hone. However ive seen on CKTG that they say a 5 to 10 minute soak will get the best use of it. I dont do it though. I think the drying cycle may cause some issues.
