    I have a few named George! the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. No history but fine finishers!
    Check the hone for acidity. One of mine is very acid using the local well water, and will really show up any pits with bright orange in a few passes. On it I use water with baking soda in it. Keeps the corrosion down. Now I use it on all my hones when not using tap water directly. I learned from a Japanese blade article.
