This was a mess when I picked it up and was pleasantly surprised after cleaning. At first I thought it was a BBW but
after a closer look the color seemed off, more of a grey than blue. Any ideas? Thanks. The stone is 1 1/4 high by 8 by 1 3/4 wide
and came in a nice oak box. It's vintage by the look of the box.

Turkey maybe? Where did you get it from?

The layering reminds me of a Hindostan, except the layers should be on the side.

There are layers on the side that are more pronounced. I'll try to get a picture up. The stone is very smooth and looks translucent/3D when wet.

I don't think that translucent fits with Hindostan, as they were a sedimentary rock and translucent sounds more novaculite or quartz-ish. I am just learning these things myself. There are several here with vast knowledge.

My wild guess would go more towards old Turkey.

Turkey stones are completely new to me. It's been a while since I've been on the site. Can someone point me in the direction of some good info
    on them? Thanks again.

    Is it hard or soft?

A pic of the end may help also.

A piece of petrified wood. Not a Schwedenstein (below). Thanks for sharing.
