Hahahah.... So like, this is a good stone? Maybe I should sell it?
Absulutly and average stone brand new pal O mine, and I shall be happy to take it off your hands to save you any further lapping hassles and grief.
I know you worked hard on it, but you have removed its collectable value by cleaning off that layer of dirt, so I will give you... ummm.. hows about 2 George washingtons and 2 cents less than 50 cents? :rofl2:
I soaked the label off, dried it and put the label and box in an envelope for posterity. The box is in poor shape and appears to have been in oil at one time.
It is a good finisher but I prefer using the Droescher and then follow with a 16k Shapton and then a HGH or Zulu. That blade is then finished. YMMV
Dave
I had both a droescher razor and stone. I still have the razor. The stone was EXCELLENT but I sold it because my guangxi gives better results but again those stones are very collectable and one of the best finishers you can get. IMO.
When I lap these things to avoid the slurry build up Shaun mentioned, I do it in the kitchen sink, under running water. Helps with stiction as well. The stone is probably a good finisher. To me Eschers or Thuringans provide a smooth edge that is not as 'crisp' as that of a good synthetic finisher. I imagine some would like that feel better, and others would prefer the crisp feel. I would finish on that stone and strop and shave. See what it feels like. Although the all pretty much look alike, they are not all the same.
Agree with Jim, they are all different and really not much better than a 12K Super Stone or 1um film, which produce the same finish every time.
I have several Thuringian, Escher’s, Droescher, Vosigine and they are all different, what bugs me is the random stria they all produce.
I recently acquired another Vosigine hone, possibly a Special Stone and it will polish a 12k edge, but with random stria. They are all natural stones and will produce results nature built into them.
Nice find, should be a nice finisher, they are really just rocks as said, where demand and price are driven by collectors. They finish well, but nothing magical.
