Thanked: 4826I think as a rock hound I could not say how many I have at all. However I do have many that I did not make
2 Escher Barbers Delight
2 Coticules
1 Charnley Forest
1 UK purple slate modern
1 Uk Purple slate vintage
1 Lyn Melynlyn
1 small blue Escher
14 barbers hones
1 Goldfisch
1 Special hone for good razors
I have probably 12 different hones of various qualities that I have made plus one that I received from one of the other rock hounds. I have stacks of hone that for this reason or that are not suitable for razors that could be used on knives or woodworking tools. Plus the usually series of Nortons and a 10K and a 13K Suehuro Sigma Power Select hones. Because I spend so much time with my hones it is tough to get good at any of the others I have, although I did try to cultivate a relationship with my Escher early on but could not say I had mastered it.It's not what you know, it's who you take fishing!

Thanked: 458I think I might have 50, but I have sold a lot over the years, too, and would like to be able to sell some without acquiring more.
I mean, I'd like to be able to stop wasting time on the internet, too...
... so, I'd better keep selling stones. I literally (now that I have the razors I want - another famous last comment), could just have a single razor hone and shave indefinitely as long as my linen and good horse leather don't take any damage.
(some of my stones do double (tools and razors) or triple (tools, razors, kitchen knives) duty)

I dunno. I suppose I never contracted HAD much. Most rocks cost more than razors! Besides, I look at honing as necessary and rarely a pleasure. Just me.

Thanked: 458Yeah, and it wears a razor. It's a nicer proposition to find a way to stretch the edge of a razor between honings and without using any abrasive. Then if you have a prized razor, you can use it for a decade every day if you want and put little wear on it.
That's the next step after hone happy, though, and it leads one to "wait...why again did I get all of these stones?"
