    Kidding aside, If you look at the old price lists that have been posted on the forums from time to time, you'll notice that the yellow/green was significantly more expensive than the others. I've seen three of them with the y/g end label + an additional label on the other end that read "guaranteed soft." So what does that mean ? Well the old barber Frank Natale told me that the best coticules were those soft enough to mark with your finger nail.

    Dunno if that is true, but I believe that the softer stone would renew abrasive more and therefore cut faster. Now on that particular stone ......... See the box ! Isn't it beautiful !! Besides that, it gets my razors feeling smooth yet plenty sharp, but I'm a fool for red boxes. .........

    Note the ad is for one dozen ;
    Gotta love the search function on this site - thanks Jimmy.

    This one arrived this morning (with slurry stone), put an initial coat of artists varnish / sealer on the label. Box was missing the lid, and the label on the side of the stone is gone (can tell it was there though),but appears to be the same type of stone as the one you posted. I'm torn over whether it's light green or yellow green. What do you think?

    Well they are all gray except the dark blue, The y/g has a sort of yellowish hue which is hard to describe. IME it is lighter in color than the Light Green, and the light green is slightly lighter in color than the blue/green. Some guy had an Escher on the bay not long ago with an end label marked Grun (green). First I'd seen and I wanted it, but not for the $ he was asking. Those days are gone for me.

    Anyway, lap it, take a pic in natural light to get a better perspective. They generally have years of dirt, patina on them so you can't see what the true color is until it is lapped. A blue/green or a light green are great hones so you can't go wrong. Might be a y/g as well.

    Have you ever honed any on it ? Curious as to where it is in the scheme of things ? A beautiful hone.

    Yes, its a good stone. It's a little softer that my LG's. performance wise it's very close to a YG, maybe a bit slower.

    If you were to be kind enough to post a couple of pics, one with the end label, I know the Haddicts on SRP would be grateful .......

    I'd be happy to, but I'll have to do it tomorrow. I'm not at home at the moment.

    Raise a slurry on the stone with a DMT or sandpaper and then put the slurry onto a black background. Y/G hones do always have yellowish slurry or at least a yellowish taint in the slurry. If the slurry is pure white, the stone is ligth green quality.
