I read that this hone work with a slate pensil slurry . I heard thatthe thurinhgian quaerie , and the franconian slate industries , were making slate pensils .
So you are honing with a thuringian or franconian slate slurry on a hard base . Like a Jnat with a Esher slurry on top . Sweeet .

The hone is not really used with a 'slurry' as such...more of a coating if you will. The few drops of water are just meant to be used to help coat the hone with a dry powder-like substance like pencil lead (be it slate or graphite), however you could certainly try creating a slurry with different powders...
