Thanked: 18k shave: Good enough for you ? Yes or no.
As the title says. Let's see what everyone's opinion is. Yes, your opinion. Some people enjoy an 8k shave. Others do not. As with most things YMMV but let's pretend that there is nothing better than a norton 8k. Would you be HAPPY shaving with this edge and this edge only.

Thanked: 246Depends. 8k JIS or 8k mesh? I just shaved off of an Atoma 400 the other day.

Thanked: 4249One must learn to max out at the 8k level, without this approach, going to a finer stone will yield inappreciable results.

Thanked: 3795This poll is useless and simply is an extension of a discussion in another thread.
The reason it is useless is because it does not take into account who used the 8k to produce the edge.Last edited by Utopian; 01-20-2015 at 03:09 PM.

Thanked: 1Intriguing that this 8k level seems so hard to master? I wonder how many people can truly 'max out' an 8k stone..... maybe my feeble mind and hands cannot comprehend!

The 8K Norton is not magical, nor is it particularly hard to learn.
Au contraire, it is often recommended as a decent and straightforward tool to learn how to hone.
What it does take is a bit of practice though, to get all that can be had from it.
As with every learned skill all it takes is to use it and learn from that usage.
Quite a few of us on this site have done exactly that, some as much as hundreds and even thousands of razors honed on them.
That experience is what we try to share with those willing to listen.
No agenda, no other motive than to share whatever we learn with others that have a desire to hone their own razors.
Sounds pretty straight forward, wouldn't you say?Bjoernar
Um, all of them, any of them that have been in front of me over all these years....

Thanked: 246Just saying. All your posts but one are in the Norton 8k thread and this one. And your posts in the 8k thread have been a bit argumentative/trollish seeming. For the record, you don't have another account under another name?
