Thanked: 3215Some cheap diamond plate can be very good if the surface is smooth and the diamond grit is consistent.
I know a guy who uses one of those plates or similar one from HF to bevel set and a Barber Hone to hone razors and he can put a hell of a keen and comfortable edge on a razor.
So I do believe the user does play a large part, very large part.
I have several diamond plates, some very inexpensive that work very well for lapping and razor repair.
It does not have to be a DMT or high dollar plate to get good results. It is just material removal, we are not finishing on these plates.

Thanked: 168No i am very happy with it , i will never buy a DMT or EZE lap or some of the good stuff because i can not afford it . I work for a 20 dolars a day as a plummer , so i will never give my half monthly payment for 2 plates .No way .
I lap 2 more stones today but this time with the 200 and 300 side and it smooths but did not wears as the 600 i guess that the small grit arent suitable for a lapping .
Whatever now the 600 side is very smoote , so i think it will be a wonderfull bevel seting plate without presure .
Doorch is right that for a 2 dolars a plate are amazing and very consistent in particle size .
I am waiting to arive from China 8000 white aluminium oxide stone .Taidea it is i think .If everything is fine i will order 5000 and this maybe

Diamond sharpening stone
Yeah Rusen that one i quite good for the price...actually i lapped around 50 Hones with this one. And i have to mention there were not only slates, i had several Arkansas Stones, Washita, two granite type stones...so a lot of really hard stones and its still working actually....
So the next buy i will do is the same as is did before, actually i could afford it but i think it doesent make sense....
As Euclid mentioned its there to do the rought work and nothing more...
Agreed that a big 8inch sized "DMT" is shurely the better and more comfortable way but it will probably cost 15more times then the cheap solution...███▓▒░░.RAZORLOVESTONES.░░▒▓███
