    Default Diamond sharpening stone

Today i recieved as a gift from a frend of mine , this diamond sharpening stone , sell in LIDL for a 9 or 10 $.
It arrived suprisingly , with a brand new rusian 6/8 Stolichnaia razor .
The razor was with 2,5 - 3 mm chips from pensil sharpening atempts . I love pensils , but i hate pensil sharpeners that destroy razors . I grind the blade doun 2,7 mm to clean the edge , and to smoothe the new diamond plates a litle bit .
At the end i put 1 piece of tape on the back / as aways / and in a 25 light strokes i set the bevel roufghtly at the finer 600 grit side of the stone .
Honnestly , i was impresed from the speed of the bevel seting , i think i will use it again. I often buy damaged old razors and i hone them and use them . In other words i often remove 1 to 3 mm chips from razors . I needed this also for lapping my stones quickly than the sandpaper .
Any of you gentelmans has any clue or impresions from this diamond sharpening stone - 4 sides 200 , 300 , 400 and 600 .
Any advise or sugestions , this is my first dmt stone , i was using 400 grit carbocorund or a diamond file for theese purposes until now .

    Hi,
The stone you linked is not suitable for straight razors, you need a continuous surface.

Can you show a picture of the razor?

...and, DMT is a brand...that does not appear to be a DMT product.

Those plates have been around for some time and are a bit rough for bevel setting razors but can be used to remove chips.
Be careful using them to bevel set, as the aggressiveness and size of the diamonds cut deep.

That deep stria will cause chipping at the finish.

If you are going to use them to bevel set, just get the bevels flat…ish and leave a bit of steel at the edge. Then bring the bevels together with a less aggressive stone in the 1K range.

The diamonds will do the bulk of the work without leaving lasting damage.

There are some good inexpensive 3X8, 1K diamond plates on eBay for 15-20 bucks.

And as you have found Carborundum Stones are great for bevel setting and repair work, just be careful with pressure.

I like the 100 series and you can still buy them for a buck or two, a bit more for pristine ones.

No it is not a good stuff , i lapped my 1200 stone and the 600 grit side goes away .I do it under runing water and very lightly and i cannot believe how fast 1200 Makita strips the diamond coat down .Good stone ha ha ha
May be i will use it for my kitchen knives or i will lap 3 more stones on the other 3 sides and destroy it perfectly .
It looks so cute when i first take it . Looking forward there are coming more razors this week for honing

I regularly use the LIDL diamond plates for flattening stones and removing chips, as the price is a cheap one (around 9€) i have to say that i never had any issues with them...

Diamond stones are good for fixing damaged razors and lapping our water stones flat. Diamonds are not good for honing to shave. We all have good luck with DMT brand stone: DMT 8in Duoshapr Continuous Diamond Sharpener Coarse D8C | eBay

Thank you and God Bless, Scott
