Sorry to be a grump but i don't think making this into a joke is really appropriate, a small business has lost a lot of their stock and cash.
this isn't aimed at one person in particular but at a few of you.
Bread and water can so easily become tea and toast

Gee I guess that was aimed at me too then.
Obviously I take the robbery seriously and agree with stiff consequences should the culprit be caught.

But I ask you, Isn't that like saying don't joke about Rob Ford because of the seriousness of Canadian politics.
Don't make jest of any serious topic?

And yes of course I will be vigilant with regard to sales of coticules

Actually, I don't recall a warning, only an opinion. I agree with the general sentiment but don't agree that anyone has made light of what has happened. I believe that most of us who have dealt with Ardennes Coticule have a great deal of respect for them and levity in this thread does nothing to diminish that.

Humor is OK as long as it's not about the theft itself. It's open season on the douche that did the stealing.

I agree (humor is OK), the rest of the people playing mom can leave it to ardennes to determine whether or not they think something is OK humor wise.

I've had stuff stolen, uninsured out of my personal assets. I never thought it was something out of bounds for humor. The most humorous thing about it was the police's response. "OK, we'll keep an eye out for it. It's unlikely we'll find anything, though. You can replace it if you need it.". Ghee thanks.

The police in my case sold unclaimed stolen items at a public sale at the end of each year, so they didn't have a great deal of incentive to find things and return them to their owner. (Those were college police).

AS to the rest of the people who want to make this a funeral....

    ........lighten up, francis.

Back around 1973 I was just out of ironworker's apprentice school, finally a full fledged journeyman. I was on on a semi-trailer signalling the crane to land 40' sections of conveyor that we would move to different areas on the grounds of the cement plant. So I'd walk backwards flagging the rig and getting ready to grab the piece and guide it to landing.

Since the trailer was 42', and the conveyor section was 40' I used that as a gauge to know when to stop stepping backwards. Then they sent a piece that was 45'. I was stepping backwards and stepped clean off the truck bed. As I was falling my leg caught the edge of the bed and it turned me straight up and down with my feet pointing to the sky, and I landed on coral rock on the top of my head. Probably fell about 4' and if I had not had a hard hat on I would probably not be here typing this mess.

The first thing that occurred to me was that I hoped no one saw it. I heard feet running toward me and I jumped up, kind of woozy. So they all came over and finally figured out I was basically alright. The steward said, "Son, it is a good thing you didn't land on your feet !" Then he told a co-worker, "Jack, I told you if you came out here you'd see things you never saw before." I took a lot of razing over that miscue for a week or so. Anyway, humor in otherwise negative circumstances is not necessarily disrespectful or inappropriate. It can even be a positive thing. IMHO.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Oh come on Ed. How much stock can one person carry off? This is an unfortunate incident but no-one lost a life - and there's more of where they came from - so the stock can be replaced.

Sorry for finding it inappropriate to ridicule someone else's misfortune. You carry on.
Also I thought that the purpose of this thread was to highlight the fact that a lot of stuff had been stolen, so people would keep an eye out for it.

The thread has served it's purpose of informining the community. I don't see anyone ridiculing what's happened - just a bit of a jest. Unfortunately for me I don't have the good fortune of a high horse to see from.
